We needed a willing volunteer to trial them for us. Here at FAS, the team decided Jenny was the most worthy.

These chambers can be used as useful dry storage for lightweight items in you canoe. Whether its a spare set of warm, dry clothes or those delicious sandwiches for your picnic.

International gold at Breizh Wild Water Race 2011 in France.

- 2nd in the Bitburg German National Race 2011.

Tried and Tested – C-Tug

As a family and as a company, we’ve been using the C – Tug trolley for years, on various trips and trials, so we thought it was way overdue a review on our blog!

For those of you that don’t know, the C – Tug is a trolley for canoes and kayaks. It can be dismantled to fit in small spaces, like the hatch of a kayak, and it can cope with pretty much any terrain you throw at it!

C-Tug

We’ve used and abused our C – Tug, using it to haul boats, often strapped one on top of the other, over grass, mud, sand, rocks and gravel. To date, we haven’t found any surface that it can’t tackle! This is due to its unusually high ground clearance, and its robust, chunky wheels.

Our C – Tug is years old, but, despite being used again and again, its still as good as new, apart from a few scratches. This is thanks to its robust design. It’s made of strong stuff (non-corroding engineering polymers). In fact, the manufacturers are so confident in its toughness, each trolley comes with a lifetime warranty!

It’s also the easiest, most practical canoe trolley we’ve seen. It can be assembled in less than 30 seconds, requires no tools to do so, and, when dissembled, takes up very little space, making it ideal for taking with you on your adventures.

We love our C – Tug, and we’ll sure you will too. In my opinion, it’s well worth the money. You can get your hands on one here.

I tested this piece of kit on a recent paddling trip, and it’s at the top of my wish-list! It was comfortable enough for me to keep it on all day, and due to the combination of supplied padding and adjustable straps, it fitted my head perfectly, staying snug throughout the trip. It felt firm and solid on my head, making me feel more comfortable to experiment with my paddling, as I knew that my head was more than safe!

The helmet also comes in a standard version, which isn’t made from Carbon and Kevlar. The Carbon version costs a fair amount more than the standard version, however, I’d say it’s well worth the extra pennies, for the added strength, comfort and style of the product. Tried and Tested – Palm Hook Glove

Here at FAS, there has been a lot of lusting recently about the latest gear from Palm. We now have an exciting range of gloves, footwear and other nifty accessories in stock. My personal favorite is the new ‘Hook’ glove.

I tried the gloves out on a recent trip to the Wye. At first, I was skeptical, thinking that the pre-positioned gloves would be uncomfortable and restrictive. However, I was quickly proved wrong, and found them comfortable and surprisingly flexible. The ‘Hook’ gloves have super articulated fingers, as well as grippy fingertips, to help you grip the paddle securely when on challenging water. It also means that they fit perfectly, with no bulging neoprene creases.

They also keep your hands cosy, even on a cold Welsh morning! They’re made from 3mm thick thermofibre neoprene, a new material developed by Palm to be warm, but not weighty. They’ve also got a panel on the palm of the glove, made from 1.5mm grippy neoprene, helping you to get a solid grip on the paddle.

I found that these gloves improved my paddling experience massively, as I didn’t have to worry about having a secure, solid grip on my paddle, so I could focus entirely on my technique and the water. They also kept my hands warm and blister-free!

I would recommend these gloves to any paddler, white-water or otherwise!
